SPG: Portrait Life

SPG believes that sometimes the best way to express oneself is through imagery. But we get it! Unless you’re like today’s “influencer” and “selfie” generation, having your pictures taken by complete strangers can bring on anxiety and a big case of “stage fright”! So from the time you book your session until the end, we will focus on connecting with you and the environmental backdrop of your choice. Your comfort, experience and satisfaction will always be our top priority. Prior to your session we will clearly communicate with you regarding YOUR expectations and will go over the attire and location that will help you look your best! After your session you will be given a timeline on when you should expect to receive your post edited pictures. What are you waiting for? We are waiting for you!

Interconnected.

If you take a minute to view our style of portraiture, you’ll find that everyone has a story and our stories all have something in common — Whether it’s through love or grief, pet ownership or wanderlusting: all human beings are 99.9% identical in their genetic makeup. That said, the great thing is that we are all still a little different and that’s what makes this world a pretty good place to live. With SPG, we want to highlight your unique story. SPG’s clients are lovers of life, diversified, unique and interconnected with their surroundings.

We are all equal in the fact that we are all different, and our portrait photographers embrace that individuality. Come go with us!

Perception and Interpretation.

Time Capsules.

SPG believes portrait photography is a blend of art and storytelling. It’s about going beneath the surface and capturing the essence of people and their journey of growth and transformation. We believe that every portrait created is a time capsule of where we were and where we are. It’s the only way to freeze time question how we interpret our lives.

The Question Marks.

Every portrait photographer has their own unique way of storytelling without words. SPG wants the viewer to question each image they see and ask, “Who is this person? Where are they? What is their story and how did they come to be?” We want the subject to see themselves in a light that they have never been seen before and ask - “Is this really me?”

We Capture Faces. Because…

“There’s nothing more interesting than the landscape of the human face.” – Quote by Irvin Kershner

We Are All Shades of Grey.

But not yet.It is said that emotions come through much stronger in black and white. That color is distracting in a way, it pleases the eye but it doesn’t necessarily reach the heart. SPG believes black and white portraits, if done correctly will tell you story with a lightning bolt! Whether it is studio or natural lighting - we’ll make magic with you!

SPG: Faces & Stories.

They say that when a portrait evokes a feeling, then you’ve got something. We don’t care about technique or fancy equipment or what the best lenses are used - they are never as important as the story your portrait tells.

SPG will capture your essence; your journey. We believe that there’s nothing more interesting than the landscape of the human face and the profound stories that carved its way through a life. There’s a depth to the wrinkles and blemishes of a person’s face that tells their story - and only through a portrait can we truly examine the lines and color scales that mark of us - that unite all of us.

Interconnected.

Rachel Mae.

Every face has a story. Sometimes the stories are simple, and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking. But behind every portrait there is always a mother's story, because hers is where every life story begins.

And while her Alzheimers has robbed her of independence, her dignity and defiance remains; it has not robbed her of the ability to look back at her life and know that she left her mark on the world.

Alzheimers vs. Rachel. Both still undefeated.

Nino.

Photography records the gamut of feelings written on the human face, the beauty of the earth and skies that man has inherited. It is a major force in explaining man to man. Woman to woman. And with the pride and passion is in the eyes, Nino, of the Southern Paiute band, continues to represent traditions and ancestral life passed down through generations by way of the native Pow Wow events. A face. Worth 1,000 words.

Kim & Riley

Pets provide us with unconditional love and companionship and become members of the family. When a pet dies, it can be devastating. If you’ve ever lost a pet then you know the loss can be just as profound as grieving a human. Because saying goodbye is an important step in the grieving process, many people choose to host pet memorials. SPG understands the end of life process with our four-legged friends can be traumatic; and we believe we can capture these moments to echo their meaning to our lives in the best way to tell your story.

We Capture Reminders.

Reminders that say, “There is still much good in the world.” “There is still much beauty and innocence.” And we are still interconnected with each other and nature.

We Capture Complexities.

And contrary to most beliefs, SPG knows that human’s complexity cannot be represented by a single image. In all of our layers and versions of self, an image can only give the viewer and subject a glimpse of what is actually captured. The rest is always for interpretation.

Human-ness & Connectedness.

Monica The Great.

There is no question that dogs make some of the best companions. From cuddles on the couch to infinite (sometimes slobbery) kisses and more, there is something extra special about a dog’s love. No matter what, our dogs are always there for us. SPG knows that capturing the end of life moments between humans and our faithful companions is profound. Such events are sacred and true. Perpetual and heartfelt. Honoring the flash of a second that couldn’t exist before and won’t exist after. Even for Monica the Great (Dane) and her mom. Humanness + Unconditional love.

“Dogs' lives are too short. Their only fault, really.”―Agnes Sligh Turnbull

Fatherhood.

SPG believes that sometimes what we become depends on what our fathers teach us at odd moments, when they aren't trying to teach us. It starts from birth and never ends. We are formed by little scraps of wisdom. Strong is the man who picks up that baby of his and holds her tight, to set the moon on the edge of her crib and to hang her name up in the stars. Brandon & Marilyn…long may they reign.

Woman’s Best Friend.

Whoever said diamonds are a girl’s best friend never owned a dog; the bond between a dog and their human is unlike any other. When was the last time someone was so overjoyed to see you, so beaming with love and affection that they literally ran to greet you? A dog will do that for you--ten, twenty, thirty times a day. Ode to Liz and Phoenix - true examples of unconditional love.

We Celebrate Beginnings...

…and Endings.
